How it works
Super Cruise is a hands-free driving aid that allows you to navigate over 130,000 miles of Super Cruise-compatible roads completely hands-free.
While Super Cruise doesn’t actually “drive” the vehicle, it does allow the driver to drive hands-free while they remain attentive and engaged, ready to take over at a moment’s notice.
You can use Super Cruise on any road that is separated from opposing traffic, and with over 130,000 miles of Super Cruise-compatible roads in North America, you can go anywhere!
There are limitations, such as Super Cruise being disabled while Teen Driver is activated. It is also recommended that you do not use Super Cruise in bad weather conditions, construction zones, tunnels, or times of limited visibility.
Super Cruise works using a plethora of advanced technologies, including LiDar Mapping, GPS, Adaptive Cruise Control and a Lane Sensing Camera to keep you in the center of the lane, creating a convenient and safe hands-free experience.
All you need to do is put your hands on the steering wheel and engage the brakes, Super Cruise and Adaptive Cruise Control will immediately disengage.
Although Super Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance system, that does not mean it is a crash avoidance system. Driver attention and engagement is still required while using Super Cruise, as the driver must be ready to take control of the vehicle at any point in time.
You can engage manual steering while using Super Cruise by simply placing your hands on the steering wheel and steering.
When you enable Super Cruise, the speed of the vehicle is matched to the speed set with Adaptive Cruise Control. If no speed is set at the time that Super Cruise is engaged, the vehicle will continue to travel at its current rate of speed.
You will receive automatic updates to your Super Cruise system via Chevrolet Connected Services.
Being that Super Cruise is a sophisticated system, it is best practice to have it serviced at a Chevrolet dealership by certified technicians, such as the ones here at Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet.
While Super Cruise actively keeps your vehicle in the center of the lane, our minds can play tricks on us and make us perceive the center of the lane to be elsewhere. This is not to cause alarm, as long as Super Cruise is active and you’re on a compatible road, your vehicle will remain in the center of the lane (+/- 4 inches).
